DA63T Pre-Arrival Parts Kit
The complete DA63T arrival-day service kit โ every consumable to order before your truck lands, with intervals, OEM part numbers, and where to buy in the US.
Your DA63T has crossed an ocean with unknown service history. Assume nothing has been serviced. That is not pessimism โ it is the correct baseline for any used import. The truck may be in perfect condition, or it may be sitting on oil that has not been changed in 30,000 km. You will not know until you check. Order this box of parts before the truck ships. When it arrives, work through the checklist below before you put the truck to work. It takes about two hours and costs around $80โ120 in parts. In exchange you get a known-good baseline for every service from here on.

Arrival-day service checklist
Work through this list the day the truck clears customs โ or as soon as it arrives at your property.
- Full oil and filter change. Even if the oil looks clean โ unknown history.
- Check and top up coolant; inspect all hoses. Look for cracks, hard rubber, or soft spongy sections.
- Inspect spark plugs. Replace if fouled, worn, or past interval.
- Inspect serpentine belt. Look for glazing, cracking, or fraying. Keep a spare in the glovebox โ they are small and inexpensive.
- Test brake fluid moisture. Use a tester strip; flush if moisture content is elevated.
- Check transmission fluid. Colour and level. Dark brown or a burnt smell means change it now.
- Inspect air filter. Replace immediately if the truck arrived from dusty or farm use.
- Check tyre pressures and inspect tread.
Engine oil
Spec: 5W-30 synthetic or semi-synthetic. Capacity: 2.8 litres including filter. Interval: Every 5,000 km (3,100 miles) or 6 months.
The K6Aโs 2.8-litre oil capacity is tiny by any standard. Contamination accumulates faster than in a larger engine, and oil neglect is the single most common cause of early K6A failure. Do not run this engine past interval. For heavy hauling, dusty farm work, or short trips, shorten the interval to 3,000 km.
Recommended brands: Mobil 1 5W-30, Castrol Edge 5W-30, Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30.

Oil filter
OEM part number: 16510-81403 (DA62T/DA63T). Interval: Every oil change, no exceptions.
Aftermarket equivalents: Wix 57356, Fram PH3614. Both are confirmed fitments for the DA63T. Order 4โ6 at a time โ they are inexpensive and you want them on hand.

Spark plugs
OEM reference: 09482-00527 (Qty 3). Standard equivalent: NGK KR7AI (stock 7789). Iridium upgrade: NGK DCPR7EIX. Interval: 20,000 km standard / 40,000โ50,000 km iridium.
The K6A is an inline-3, so it takes 3 plugs. Iridium plugs cost around $8โ12 each versus $3โ5 for standard โ for a keeper truck the iridium upgrade is worth it. Fewer changes, more consistent ignition, and the plugs will outlast two sets of standard plugs.

Air filter
Spec: OEM DA63T fitment. Interval: 20,000 km โ or immediately on arrival from dusty or farm use.
If the truck spent its Japanese working life on a farm, replace the air filter on arrival regardless of mileage. Dust loading varies enormously between farm trucks and urban delivery units. OEM is the safest choice; aftermarket panel filters exist but verify the fitment before ordering. Yokohama Motors and Oiwa Garage stock DA63T-specific filters.
Part number requires verification with your supplier โ confirm the correct filter for your specific build date and variant.
Serpentine belt
Spec: DA62T/DA63T specific. Interval: Inspect at every oil change; replace at 60,000 km (37,000 miles) or at the first sign of cracking, glazing, or fraying.
The K6Aโs serpentine belt drives the alternator, water pump, and AC compressor โ all on one belt. A snapped belt kills the water pump immediately. In a 658cc engine, overheating damage can happen within minutes. Carry a spare in the glovebox. They are small, cheap, and the difference between a two-minute roadside fix and a seized engine.
Suppliers: Yokohama Motors and Gold Star Parts stock DA62T/DA63T belts. For aftermarket, use a Gates or Dayco equivalent โ match the OEM dimensions exactly.
Part number requires verification with your supplier before ordering.
Coolant
Spec: OAT (Organic Acid Technology) or Suzuki Super Long Life Coolant (pink/red). Capacity: 2.5 litres. Interval: Flush every 5 years or 100,000 km.
Do not mix pink OAT coolant with green conventional antifreeze. The two chemistries react and accelerate corrosion inside the cooling system. If the coolant colour is unknown or the fluid is cloudy, flush the system completely on arrival before operating the truck.
The K6A has very little thermal mass. Degraded coolant causes overheating faster than in a larger engine. If in doubt, flush it.

Brake fluid
Spec: DOT 3 or DOT 4. Interval: Test on arrival; full flush every 2 years.
Use a brake fluid moisture tester strip to check water content. Brake systems absorb moisture over time, and a 20-year-old truck may have fluid well past safe limits. Elevated moisture = reduced boiling point = brake fade under heavy use. If moisture content is high, flush the system before driving.

Manual gearbox oil
Spec: GL-4 75W-90 gear oil. Interval: Inspect on arrival; replace every 40,000โ60,000 km or if the fluid is dark or contaminated.
Drain a small sample and check colour. Clear amber or light brown is fine. Dark brown, black, or a burnt smell means change it now. Verify the exact spec for your specific DA63T variant โ some transmission variants have different requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What oil does the DA63T take?
- 5W-30 synthetic or semi-synthetic, with a capacity of 2.8 litres including the filter. Do not use 10W-40 โ it is too thick for the K6A's tight tolerances. In extreme cold (below -10ยฐF / -23ยฐC), 0W-20 is acceptable.
- How often should I change the oil on a kei truck?
- Every 5,000 km (about 3,100 miles) or every 6 months, whichever comes first. Shorten that to 3,000 km if you use the truck for heavy hauling, dusty farm work, or frequent short trips. The K6A only holds 2.8 litres of oil โ contamination builds faster than in a larger engine, and oil neglect is the number-one cause of early K6A failure.
- Can I use synthetic oil in a K6A engine?
- Yes โ synthetic is the recommended choice. A quality 5W-30 synthetic (Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, Pennzoil Platinum) is ideal. The K6A is not sensitive to synthetic oil despite its age; modern synthetics are safe in older Japanese engines and will outperform conventional oil on protection between changes.
- What spark plugs does the DA63T use?
- The K6A inline-3 uses 3 spark plugs. The NGK KR7AI (stock number 7789) is the confirmed standard equivalent. For long-term ownership, upgrade to NGK DCPR7EIX iridium plugs โ they run to 40,000โ50,000 km and provide more consistent ignition than standard plugs. OEM Suzuki reference: 09482-00527.
- What coolant does the Suzuki Carry DA63T use?
- Suzuki Super Long Life Coolant (pink/red) or any OAT (Organic Acid Technology) coolant. Do not mix with green conventional antifreeze โ the two chemistries react and accelerate corrosion. The K6A cooling system holds approximately 2.5 litres. If the coolant colour is unknown or cloudy on arrival, flush it completely before operating the truck.
