Overview
The F6A is the engine in the older generation Suzuki Carry — the DC51T and DD51T trucks built from 1991 to 1998. It predates both the K6A and R06A and represents a simpler, older engineering approach: a belt-driven camshaft, no variable valve timing, no timing chain, and no hydraulic valve lifters. What this means in practice is that the F6A demands more scheduled maintenance than its successors — specifically a timing belt replacement every 60,000 km and a valve clearance check every 20,000 km — but rewards that discipline with robust, predictable performance. Parts are well-supported by the JDM aftermarket, and the engine's long production run across multiple Suzuki models ensures a deep global supply of service items.

How it compares
Compared to the K6A (successor): the K6A replaced the F6A from 1998 onward and is unambiguously more modern — timing chain instead of belt, no valve clearance service, DOHC, higher power, better emissions. For long-term ownership the K6A is simpler to maintain and more forgiving of missed service intervals. The F6A's only practical advantages over the K6A are its lower purchase price (older trucks cost less) and the fact that it is already 25+ years old, making the earliest examples eligible for US import now. Compared to the R06A: even more of a generational gap — the F6A predates the R06A by over two decades. The F6A is purely for buyers targeting the older DC51T/DD51T generation specifically.
